Abamec-D 

Abamec-D is a broad-spectrum endo-ecto parasiticide tablet used for the treatment and control of internal and external parasites in dogs. It is widely available in Sri Lanka (sold in packs of 2 or 4 tablets) and is effective against both gastrointestinal worms and external parasites like fleas, ticks, lice, and mange mites.

Composition (per tablet)

• Praziquantel — 50 mg (effective against tapeworms / cestodes)
• Abamectin — 2 mg (effective against roundworms / nematodes, heartworm (filariasis), fleas, lice, ticks, and mange mites including ear mites)

Indications

• Internal parasites: Tapeworms (cestodes) and roundworms (nematodes)
• Heartworm (filariasis)
• External parasites: Fleas, lice, pasture ticks, and mange mites (including ear scabies)
• Especially useful in cases of mixed endo- and ectoparasitic infestations

Dosage

• Standard dose: 1 tablet per 10 kg body weight
• Treatment can be repeated after 1 month if needed
• For dogs over 40 kg: Do not exceed 4 tablets in a single dose
• Administer directly or mix with food

Important Contraindications & Warnings

• Do not use in:
  • Collies, Shelties, Bobtails (and related herding breeds) — due to sensitivity to abamectin
  • Pregnant bitches
  • Puppies under 2 months of age
• In cases of heavy flea infestation, disinfect the living environment as well
• Always consult a veterinarian before use, especially for breeds sensitive to macrocyclic lactones (like abamectin)
